Vector Game of Thrones book cover

HBO re-release

original
my cover
I truly enjoyed this book and the one's that fallowed after however i always thought the covers where a little bland and gave no indication of the books depth. I tried to express just how dark this book is by focusing on the throne, and the misfortune that it brings anyone that sits upon it. Wile using a dark color plate on top of an ice field

I used a few pictures from the HBO show and vectored them removing many of the details and colors. then i added in the throne and crown with the pen tool. and finished it off with a few forms of Celtic text.

  3. Having seen this series and hearing about the book through friends, I really think you did a great job in showing how evil these books really are. The way you removed any detail from the figures face really adds mystery and a sort of creepiness. The only thing you could have possible changed is the color of the font. Some how try to tie it in to the rest of the piece, either with the color or maybe even the design.

  4. I like how the type and colors give off the vibe of an aggressive/adventurous book. Of course the title alone provides that feeling but the colors and layout definitely contribute to the forecasted theme. I like the light blue background which helps define the shape of the throne, and place emphasis on the inside.

  5. This is really cool. I like the lack of detail, and the fact that you only show the important parts like the crown, sword, and armor. I can't really think of anything to change or add on this.

  6. Ahh, one thing I noticed is that the title is incorrect on top, 'A Song Of Ice and Fire', but I do like the cover art you created. I'm not sure if it's too similar to the HBO release cover with how he's posing on his throne, but you did manage to capture the darkness like you said you intended to. I definitely think it shows a lot more than the other covers.

  7. I like your use of vectored images, the throne in particular. The highlights on the figure are a nice touch as well, reminiscient of tenebrism. I would have liked to have seen highlights of a face or nothing at all. If I remember correctly, from the critique, the figure is supposed to be beheaded but it's not noticeable, to me.

  8. This is a very interesting piece, and I really like the ambiguity of the figure in what I assume is the throne. I also like how the blood runs down off of the throne and under the figure. The crown with the blood dripping off of it makes me wonder if there is some kind of biblical aspect that may be referring to the crucifixion of Christ. It has made me very curious and interested in the series.
