Week 1

M - 27-08-12     - introductions, syllabus, lab access forms, and class blog instructions
                          - What is digital art? Check out examples of digital art.
                
                         Homework: Set up individual student blog.

W - 29-08-12     - raster lecture
                          - discuss and assign the raster exercise
                          - demo 1: Photoshop basics, importing images, photo correction, crop, effects,
                             tools
                          - lab time to plan/work on the exercise

Week 2

M - 03-08-12     NO SCHOOL

W - 05-09-12     - demo 2: layers, selecting, masking, curves, selective color, feathering,
                             composite styles, etc. 
                          - lab 

Week 3

M - 10-09-12     - raster exercise 1A due on the blog at the start of class
                          - quick critique/discussion on the raster exercise
                          - introduce raster project
                          - lecture: Altered Histories
                          - if there's time left, students can start brainstorming for the project

Week 4

Week 5

M - 24-09-12     - raster project due on the blog at the start of class
                          - raster critique
                          - introduce unit 2: vector lecture - vector vs. raster, text
                          - introduce the vector exercise

W - 26-09-12     - demo 3: basics of Illustrator, tools, brushes, going back and forth from Photoshop
                            to Illustrator, etc.
                          - lab time to work on the vector exercise

Week 6

M - 01-10-12     - lab

W - 03-10-12     - vector exercise due on the blog at the start of class
                          - quick critique of the vector exercise
                          - introduce vector project: create the book cover to your tell-all story
                          - show a clip from RuPaul's Drag Race where contestants had to design fake
                            autobiography book covers
                          - sketching and brainstorming  
 

Week 7

W - 17-10-12     - vector project due on the blog at the start of class
                          - vector project critique

Week 9

M - 22-10-12     - introduce animation unit
                          - animation lecture: history of animation, types of animation: rotoscoping, etc.
                            how digital tools have changed animation
                          - present stop-motion project
                          - watch examples of stop-motion animation
                          - demo 4: how to use camera to create a stop-animation video
                          - brainstorming

                          Homework: bring in a list of at least three different ideas for this project

W - 24-10-12     - present project ideas to the class
                          - lab time: choose best idea and create a storyboard
