For my vector project I decided to redo a book cover for a childrens book that I loved when I was younger. The book is called “The Monster at the end of this Book.” While the book its self is silly and cute I decided to try and use some fairly recognizable figures from some more recent movies. I wanted to push the idea that one “Monster” was scared of another as that is the whole idea behind the book.
To make this book cover I used images of Mike from “Monsters Inc” and one from “Monsters vs. Aliens” as well as a random cutesy monster I found online. I then created a background, downloaded a new font, and added the images mentioned above. Then I warped both the cartoon monsters so that they were not exactly the same as in the movies. After I got the two main monsters done as well as the background and text, I resized the cute monster. I also made multiple copies of this monster in various sizes and placed them around the piece.

I think your concept is really adorable, and I like the monsters that you chose. I also appreciate the detail you added with the several tiny monsters all around
ReplyDeleteI like the first one, I think you design the major and background and the words of title perfectly. For the second one, I think it looks a little bit weird and maybe you should change the background color or add more objects.
ReplyDeleteI like this project, particularly the images you chose. The expressions on the monsters match. I don't think you really need all the little monsters in the back though. They don't really seem to deal with what this book is about.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you decided to use characters that we all know and love. The idea behind this book is good and I like how you mixed it up by deciding to redesign a children's book cover. The only issue I have is the blue background, it is kind of distracting considering it is so bright. Maybe if you used a calmer cooler the monsters would stick out more.
ReplyDeleteThe monsters' facial expressions match very well. I really like how you found them to go well together. I just don't believe the mini-monsters in the back are necessary. It crowds and distracts the core of the cover's message.
ReplyDeleteYou have an interesting and entertaining concept here. I have never read the story but the idea of monsters being scared of monsters is ironic and I like that. The main monsters, at the front, were given expressions that match the concept very well. I believe there more needs to be done to the background and the monster trail needs to be more detailed, to make it more recognizable.
