Bailey's Siddhartha Redesign

These two images are the original covers for the book.

For my project I decided to redesign the book Siddhartha. Siddhartha is about a boy who becomes a man and through out his journey he learns about the world and himself through various life experiences. I created so many book covers because Siddhartha goes through so many transformations throughout the book and I could not decide which cover illustrated that best. For the three covers with the images of the rivers on the book, I did this because, in Siddhartha's journey, when he comes to the river and he sits and listens to the river, that's when he learns the most about himself and about the world. The river is his best teacher. The other covers depict him when he has already become the Buddha and when he has reached full nirvana.

To create this covers, I first found images on Google that went with the theme and the idea I was going for. Then I Vectorized them and then expanded them into objects. Once I did that I rearranged their size and their colors somewhat. After I had the background image that I wanted, I found the perfect font on Dafont.com and downloaded it. Making the title the most noticeable thing was difficult in some titles so I had to mess around with color, outlining, and size a lot. My favorite cover is the one where it shows Siddhartha as the ferryman, because that was when he really learned about himself and what he was supposed to do in life.

  1. I really appreciate your concept and actually want to read this book just from looking at the cover and learning that it is a coming of age story. I would like to know the different stages

  2. I think I like the first one most, I like the way you make the background picture. Is it changed from a real landscape or you draw it? Also I like the font of is, it looks so cool.

  3. All of these covers are really awesome. I like the third one best. The image is perfect, it is well put together and deals with the most important part of the book. I don't think I would really change anything, but it might be fun to play with putting the silhouette of an object in the distance to symbolize the change into the person he is moving towards.

  4. All of these covers are really cool, but I think my favorite is the first one of just the river at sunset. I think its my favorite because of the reflection of the sunset and the color that it has. I also feel like it shows that the book is a reflection the best.

  5. It's great how you decided to do different covers (it shows that you were excited for this project and that you love this book). These covers cause the viewers to dwell on the meaning, especially the first and third covers. These probably relate to the story the most, judging from your information. I also like how these covers, 1 and 3, came out. The vectored river and mountains are amazing and the sunlight reflection, on the water, is powerful. I like the contrasting colors on the ferryman cover and that image of the ferryman is humble. I also like the fourth cover for its creativity. The river does not have that tranquil quality as in the first cover but it has an organic yet unnatural feel to it that I believe is creative. Overall, you did a great job with these covers.
