Originally, for my vector exercise, I wanted to do texts that described the arts (Art, writing, and music) however, I realized that the project would have taken me longer and I would have needed to use images for what I had planned. I already had music fonts downloaded, so, I decided to focus on music and to try to convey music through just text.
The first piece of text I created was the black one towards
the middle. I overlapped two different music fonts and used the create outlines
tool along with merge tool in pathfinder. Then I pulled pieces of the text and
moved them around creating shapes and distortion. I was going to do the whole
piece in black and white but I thought how music is colorful and emotional so I
decided to do different colors, basing each text on complementary colors.
For the next step, in the process, I created the instrument
pieces on the sides of the main texts. I used a third font for the instruments
and used the first two fonts to embellish the instruments; I also added
question marks and exclamation points to communicate emotion. I did them in complementary
colors as well and I used the warp to tool to slightly twist them. Then I once
again merged the pieces and pulled different pieces out. The final piece I added was the bottom collage
of fonts. I had the extra space and I wanted to fill the piece. I used the sprayer
to add multiple copies of the same font letters and I also scrunched them.
Fonts used: alpha music man, distracted musician, and wc musica bta.

I like the fonts you used, they reflect your music concept really well. Something I would change might be the color scheme because they are a lot of different colors and it's almost confusing.
ReplyDeleteI like the color scheme in this a lot. It really stands out and there are many different colors in each word just like there are many different genres in music. I do feel that you don't need the part on the bottom, at first I thought it was another "music" that was cut off, but it just doesn't seem to fit.
ReplyDeleteVery creative way of incorporating the word Music into the lines of what musicians read from for music. I also really like the graphic in the bottom right corner how it begins at a higher height and gradually decreases as it moves to the right. I may suggest having the word Music be edited into looking like actual musical notes while of course holding the form of the word Music.
ReplyDeleteThis is a neat piece. I would like to see what could happen if you did do all kinds of art. As it is, its vibrant and moving. I get the feeling that music is actually playing and I want to know what it is. I might like to see some kind of light background color that could help enhance the bright colors you used.
ReplyDeleteI like it, the idea is so cool, also the design. But I think it's a little bit colorful, maybe reduce one or two "Music" will be better.
ReplyDeletethe fonts you used fit it perfectly, with the offset instruments almost looking like notes on a music sheet. the color scheme is a little jarring wile it does make the lines look like different types of music the wide range of colors is a lot to take in.
ReplyDeleteYour use of fonts really does portray the idea of music and without even reading the word I could see that it had something to do with music. I am also glad you chose to go with color because it really adds to the piece. The thing that could have made it better was if maybe you did other words that have something to do with music. Just using the word music made it kind of repetitive.
