Taylor Loutsis :: Project 2 :: Capturing Time

My idea for project two began with wanting to capture all the hours of a day within one single image. I began then figuring out which environment would be the best for executing the photomontage. I figured the best solution would be a road, train track, trail or some path to guide the viewer from one end of the path to the other. I then brought my next idea of starting with the sunrise in the left side of the image and working its way to the right hand side with the day light coming to an end. I felt the image needed an object to glue the concept together. I brought my concept together with finalizing the light rail as my trail/path and the train as my glue for gluing the concept together.

The process for Project Two began with figuring how in the hell I would capture all day light hours of the day. I typed-up an excel spred sheet of the hours of daylight and then set-out to document blocks of time throughout my first week to document all hours of the day. Once I finalized all photography for the 17 hours of daylight, I began the editing process. The process of hell. Photoshop was a brand new program for me, well, beyond basic photo editing involving light and color. I ended up editing, seaming together, and learning Photoshop as I went. It was the best project for me to embark on for learning the program. I learned, how to warp, distort and resize objects, stamp tool, pen tool, healing tool, and many other tools aiding the process towards the final product.

  1. I really like how this turned out, I think you did an excellent job. The way you pieced it all together makes me feel like I am standing right there watching the light rail go by. The photos have great quality as well! I love the detail in the clouds in the far left.

  2. This is a really cool picture, and very well done. The way that the pictures are pieced together is so smooth that it looks like you sat there from sunrise to sunset taking one continuous shot.

  3. I don't think anyone will be able to tell that this was your first time using photoshop because the colors and the images blended together really nicely. I like how there are hints of the sky on each end.

  5. I like this, but it makes me feel like I'm looking at an advertisement for a train.

  6. I really like this image. The fact that you got images of the light rail from every time in the day shows how hard you worked on this piece. Also the way that the viewer's eye is drawn to the middle is a cool effect. You did a fantastic job on this project!
